Let's chat about social media! There is no doubt that social media has become a big part of our society...it really has become a way of the times. But have you ever stopped to think about how social media might be impacting your diet and your body image?
I'd like you to take a moment to reflect on your social media feed/s. Have you ever noticed that what you talk about suddenly appears in your feed? Or perhaps you've experienced the phenomenon where the more you engage with something, the more it pops up. Maybe there's a friend who consistently posts swimsuit pictures or gym selfies, or you're following a celebrity who frequently flaunts their body. How does all of this make you feel?
Yes, everyone has the right to post whatever they please on social media. However, it's crucial to consider how it impacts YOU and your self-esteem. When we're striving to improve our relationship with food and boost our confidence, we need to silence that negative inner voice. The one that says, "I'll never have a body like that," "Maybe I need to work out more," "Those clothes will never look as good on me," or "Maybe I should eat less." It's time to put a STOP to it!
Imagine if the way you talked to yourself, was the way you spoke to a friend how do you think that would make them feel? I want you to know that you are worthy of speaking to yourself just as well as you would a friend.
If we can cultivate a positive mindset and diminish the negative self-talk fuelled by social media, we'll pave the way for a healthier, happier you. So, what's the next step?
It's time to hit that "hide" or "unfollow" button on anything that's not uplifting from your newsfeed. Less exposure to things that don't serve us the easier the road will be to making lasting dietary changes. So the next time you stumble upon a page that doesn't make you feel good about yourself, you don't have to comment – just hide it from your feed or unfollow it.
Remember, a healthy diet in the long run begins with a positive mindset today.
