Embrace Imperfection on Your Health Journey

Let's talk about something that often trips us up – the pressure to be perfect when we start a "diet".

Do you ever find yourself starting a new diet or health plan on a Monday, after indulging in a weekend feast knowing that when Monday rolls around your going to be "good" and stick to the diet perfectly. You're not alone.

But life has a funny way of throwing curveballs – whether it's a spontaneous dinner invitation, a friend popping by unexpectedly, or just a rough week where you feel like you deserve a treat.

Here's the truth: Your health journey isn't a straight line. It's okay to enjoy dessert at a restaurant or have the sausage roll at a birthday party. Perfection isn't the goal – we're all human, after all.

The moment we strive for perfection, we set ourselves up for feelings of shame and guilt when we inevitably slip up, leading to unhealthy cycles of binge eating or strict food restriction.

So, what's one of the solutions to this perfectionism? It's simple: Be kind to yourself. If you find yourself indulging in something you feel you "shouldn't," don't beat yourself up. Instead, focus on making your next meal more nourishing, after all you have not done anything seriously wrong. And when negative self-talk creeps in, ask yourself: Would I speak to a friend this way? You deserve the same kindness and compassion you extend to others.

Remember, it's the small, consistent changes that make the biggest difference long-term. Set small achievable goals – maybe it's committing to having a piece of fruit every day, adding more veggies to your meals, or opting for a healthy snack during your morning break. Every small step counts and even if it is slow progress it is still progress.

Whatever step you take to improve your diet I want you to ask yourself this one question. Is this sustainable? If it's not choose something that is.

With love and gratitude

Nat
